This makes me happy. This is the first, and probably only, time that I have the top score for a song in Rock Band. Yes, it says I am in the 11th percentile or something, but all the scores to number one have 63, 075. And yes, Imagine is far from a hard song on drums, in fact it is one of the easiest, but I am proud of myself for finally achieving the top score in a song.
So you want to mess with me?! What?! What?! I’m good at plastic drums, bitches!

Happy Jesus Day!

Merry Christmas, happy holidays, super duper Saturday, whatever you prefer, but it’s that time of year when gifts are given and joy is had. I know a lot of people HATE Christmas and DESPISE its supposed commercialism but FUCK THAT, I like getting gifts. I’m greedy and my parents appease this by giving me a good chunk of video games each year.

My haul from them this year composed of Rock Band 3, Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom and Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. My sister bought me a 2800 point card, a beloved tradition we’ve had since I first bought my Xbox.

Look forward to updates on these games or don’t look forward to it, depending on your opinion of this blog.

What video games, if any, did you guys get for Christmas?

More like SLAUGHTERhouse!

I rented Splatterhouse and am currently playing through it. So far, after beating the second level, I can say that this game defines the idea of a ‘renter’ to me. Already I can see this game becoming incredibly tiring and overall not worth the effort. Sure the game is bloody as hell but that’s about it. OH! There’s also nudity. But you have to work for the nudity, it’s the part of this game’s collectibles. Never have I been so happy to be a natural collecting enthusiast. I love collecting everything I can and this game rewards me with BOOBS!!

Really though Splatterhouse, if this is all you’re putting on the table I am very disappointed in you.

More Splatterhouse info to come.

America!! Fuck Yeah!!

I rarely play multiplayer games, there’s just something about the online environment that just completely turns me off. Maybe it’s due to the general attitude of other gamers, the annoying high pitched whines of the young or that I just suck. Maybe it’s all of those things? With this, the Call of Duty series has arguably become one hundred times more focused on the multiplayer game than the single player, which is disappointing. In the end it seems that when you’re done the single player campaign it feels as though you got the broken pieces of LEGO that every other student didn’t want to play with. Essentially, you got the Bionicle of LEGO and the other students got the samurai fortress.

I recently rented and beat the single player campaign of Call of Duty: Black Ops and all I can say that there is a resounding ‘meehhhhhhhh.’ There are less than a handful of moments in the game that I can say I enjoyed. I hated the main character, Alex Mason or whatever his name was and I hated every mission that he was in. The only characters I found somewhat badass in the game were Hudson and Woods. They even went above and beyond and made Reznov, a badass character from World at War and turned him into a chump. A CHUMP.

Basically my plea is to put more love into the campaigns of the CoD games. There are still people who play the game just for the single player, it’s nigh impossible that I am the only one. Call of Duty 4 had an amazing campaign. World at War had an alright campaign with a few missions at were top tear and an AMAZING ending. Modern Warfare 2 was tripe single player with only one interesting level to me. Black Ops continues the downward trend. Please turn the next one into a more loved campaign, please.

Speaking of endings, Black Ops ending was the most convoluted and ridiculous American pride bullshit I’ve ever seen. Absolute ‘America! Fuck Yeah!’ moment. Teaches me to look forward to games again…

Hit or miss

Fable 3, A miss. Someone tell me how a third generation game can be worse than the first? I was a huge fan of the first Fable game, I must have played 7+ files all the way through. And in their attempt to eliminate a menu system, they made something 100 times more annoying, some damn room I have to go to to change clothing and weapons. Because of this annoying room, I have yet to change my clothing on my own. Im still wearing whatever my last quest called for. This games does have some good elements, like the living weapons. But they promised weapons that changed with me… they only seem to change when I upgrade my fighting style. And the customization of my characters fighting styles WENT DOWN!!!! WHAT THE FUCK!!!?!?!?! I cant make a fast strong ranged guy!!! Nope, they just look the same. Now to be fair im only 4 hours into my first play through. But damn am I annoyed with this slow, unresponsive game. Ill go back to the original Fable anyday before this one..

This is a reader submitted piece about Fable 3. I have not played Fable 3 but I have seen my roommate play it and let me just say that it does not look that appealing. Played Fable 2, didn’t like it, there may be more thoughts on it to follow.

Okay, I thought the baseball glove was ridiculous.
Unless Wario is secretly Ahab this makes absolutely no sense.

Oh my goodness! This is the game I am most excited for from the trailers shown at the VGA. I LOVED Oblivion. I played Oblivion about 50 times and I still find the world and atmosphere of the game to be absolutely irresistible. Skyrim hopefully will keep the magic of the world alive and I am hoping to be getting this game ASAP.

I love Oblivion. I loved The Shivering Isles. I am really excited for this game, REALLY excited. Fantasy universes intrigue me and hold my interest a lot more than modern or futuristic games and fantasy hasn’t been touched correctly in a while. Hopefully Skyrim will fix this.

Submerging Castles

If I had such a reaction to a castle submerging under the sand this early in the game of Final Fantasy 3 I can’t imagine how I’ll be reacting later on in this thing. I only see it going up from here.

I also am enjoying Kefka as a villain already and I hear he is one of the better Final Fantasy villains out there. Hopefully better than the questionably femine Seymor from FFX.

Guillermo Del Toro is stepping into the world of video games and bringing in another addition to the horror genre. I don’t know much about this game but Del Toro said something along about scaring the shit out of the players.

Let’s hope this stays true because I am interested in another horror or survival horror game. They’re damn good, under appreciated and one of my favourite genres out there.

I don’t really know what else to say besides the amazingness of Portal. Portal 2 shall hopefully expand on this and make it that much better. It’ll be interesting to see how they take an original and awesome 2 hour game and turn it into a (hopefully) original and awesome 6-12 hour game.

Valve knows how to make good stuff. Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2 and everything else they make is quite successful and unique. I am sure that Portal 2 will keep this trend going strong.

They just need to make Half Life 2 Episode 3

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception’s trailer further expands upon the teaser I posted earlier in this blog. This game looks awesome and the game is going to be awesome. I know that is very hopeful and somewhat dumb for me to say but I really enjoyed Uncharted 2.

I hope this game has the same sort of spirit that the second one had and I also hope that this game features another sort of otherwordly creature. Uncharted 2 is everything Indian Jones should’ve been.

So after the Spike VGA awards there are a bunch of trailers, teasers and other stuff released unto the world. Basically the last quarter of 2011 is going to be a GREAT year for gaming.

Today I am going to post a bunch of videos that I really enjoy and look forward to. I’m starting off with Batman: Arkham City because, damn it, this game is going to be awesome. Arkham Asylum was a treat in gaming and absolutely captured what Batman is all about. This trailer is awesome, clean and exciting. Hugo Strange is going to tear some shit up in this game. If this game is 40 bucks upon release I will be dying it day one, just like I did for Arkham Asylum.

With such an ominous tower a name like ‘Syrup Castle’ just completely ruins it.
Someone in marketing better get working on a new title. I’m thinking ‘Tower of Death’ might be a good start.

This picture hit me with a huge wave of nostalgia. I just beat Wood Man and was absolutely floored with how many memories this picture from Mega Man 2 brought back to me. It reminded me of the days of my youth, before I was even a teenager. The days where I didn’t give to shits about money or fitting in, I just had my nose stuck into my Gameboy.
Playing through all of these old games on the emulators is an absolutely magnificent experience. It reminds me of the days when gaming was sincere and I cared more about what was around every corner. Each level, world and image brings back further and further memories of my days in after school care.
Super Mario Land 3 is definitely the biggest rush of memories so far. Every new world has me remembering the layouts and most importantly the bosses. Mega Man 2 is much harder than I remember, I have no idea how a younger me was able to glide throuh the game so smoothly, but I did.
I recommend everyone go out and get their hands on a game they played in their childhood. Whether it be legally or… emulating it is absolutely worth it. The result is rewarding, magnificent and, most importantly, sincere.
